2008 Bayoushimmy Spring Newsletter

Posted in BayouShimmySTUDIO, Bellydance, Community, Newsletter at 8:20 pm by shamsidances

It’s always a huge weight off my chest when I finally get a newsletter out. This is my primary method for contacting the world and letting everyone know what it is that we’re doing at the studio and in the world of South Louisiana bellydance. So when I’m late in getting this one item done, I inevitably miss events that exist in the rough drafts but which are over by the time the newsletter is finally complete. Sadly, I’m happier at that point because I can just delete without worrying about how “too” long the newsletter is.

The highlight of our newsletter is the 2nd annual Baton Rouge Bellydance Festival. Prior to that event are 2 high profile seminars in New Orleans, so we’ll just work hard to promote locally and keep our fingers crossed. Even if we only get 50 people registered that will cover any costs. I think we can do that without too much effort.

Well this one is done and out the door as they say. There’s apparently quite a bit going on this spring….so we’ll just take a deep breath and let you all know how it lands.

Travelin’ and studyin’

Posted in Shamsi-bellydance at 3:59 pm by shamsidances

WHOOOHOOO…soooo…After having fulfilled a (at least my first) 4 year obligation to Dunya and my Dancemeditation certification….I’m ready to study some BELLYDANCE again! Soooooo I’m saving up my mulah to travel and learn and meet new people in the dance community. First stop is TribeOriginal….I can’t wait, September 18th -21st. I love the Asheville, NC area and I have friends who recently moved *near* there….so I’ll be glad for a reason to get up to NC. NOT TO MENTION all of the really cool stuff that is planned.

Next on my little list is 3rd COAST Tribal, January 7-11, 2009! I’ve never really been in a position to go (money or time)…actually, I’m typically getting home from Winter Monastery Movement (Dancemeditaiton Winter retreat) about day 2 or 3 of 3rd Coast…but not this year baby! Plus, Artemis is going to be there and I’ve *NEVER* even been in the vicinity when John Compton was teaching…so that’s just going to be a BLAST. Every once in a while, outside of my normal group of friends, I realize that I am terribly, unbelievably just plain lucky; a friend of mine from Houston, Zymirrah, regularly hosts workshops and is the coordinator for 3rd Coast Tribal and she asked if I would mind teaching a small class on one of the stages! HECK YEAH!!! So now THAT’s kind of exciting….if you must know.

Yup…..I’m psyched and if I’m very very good (which we all know I am) I will be able to save up a little extra for some intermediate trips besides these two ;-)
