Dancemeditation™ is a healing practice wherein we take the time to reconnect with our bodies through, gentle movement, free movement, writing, witnessing, chanting, and whirling. No previous experience is necessary. Please bring a yoga mat and a small blanket, veil if you have one, as well as a blindfold and writing materials. Please dress comfortably and wear layers in case the environment is too cold or hot. Shamsi's teaching is guided by a desire to make beautiful, healing movement accessible and possible for everyone. By cultivating constant, subtle awareness, Dancemeditation reaches in and wakes our sleeping inner beauty. Shamsi brings these dynamic principles to her teaching.

From the Dancemeditation™ website:

"Dancemeditation utilizes a wide variety of movement techniques within a primarily non-verbal study environment to drop practitioners out of an over-active, distracted mind into intuitive embodiment.
"The materials are both a solid healing ground for personal practice and a delightful, dynamic community process. Intensive trainings and teaching certification are conducted by founder & principal Teacher, Dunya, in periods of retreat for in-depth investigation and rejuvenation. These materials can also be studied with certified teachers in seminars, class series and private sessions. Whether training is solitary or accompanied, its non-competitive orientation affirms each person’s beauty, harmony, and magnificence."
On a personal note, I would like to say that Dancemeditation had a great hand in helping me "come to the center of me." I was already on a path that was leading me to a greater sense of awareness of both self and the world around me, but Dancemeditation really honed my skills of meditation, focus, flexibility of thought and mind, and subtlety. Dancemeditation not only reinforced, enhanced and deepened my dance practice, but it gave me more tools to bring forth a positive change and connected presence in my every day life.

Cabaret vs. Tribal
Understanding how the universal (basic) bellydance movements are applied within the in various styles of bellydance is essential to creating a well-rounded dancer. We will detail the difference between the strikingly different appearance of American Cabaret Bellydance and American Tribal Style bellydance. Movements will be broken down into their most basic elements, then applied with different emphasis, which widens the dancers vocabulary regardless of style. We’ll explore both freestyle cabaret and structured American Tribal Style (using the Fat Chance Belly Dance Format).
